Hair Gembel From Wonosobo

Children who have “Rambut Gembel” must be purified. “Rambut Gembel” means sticky curly and twisted hair and it is considered to bring misfortune.

This is the reason why “Ruwatan or Purification must be conducted through a ceremony, Such ceremony is held after the child has been able to put forward a certain request to his parent. The ceremony is carried out by putting a ring into the logest “Gembel” followed by utterance a spell giving some offering the cutting is done. If Ruwatan ceremony is not upon request, even though cutting has been done,  “Hair Gembel ” will grow again.

 Third, The History

The folktale of the history of Wonosobo began from the early seventeen century with the arrivals of the three figures called Kyai Kolodete, kyai Walik, and Kyai Karim who came down to this land together with families and relations. At the time Wonosobo was a cluster of jungle. Those three were regarded as the rounders of Wonosobo. Kyai Walik was a town designer, Kyai Karim was believed to be the one who put forwards a set of basic rules of the government. Kyai Kolodete’s part was not identified, expected that he was knows as the rule of Dieng Flateau. Wonosobo is located in central Java province, Indonesia.
